This course is designed for students who have completed Painting for Beginners or have some basic experience with acrylic painting. Over six weeks, you will deepen your understanding of acrylic techniques, strengthen observational skills, and develop more confident, expressive paintings. With guided demonstrations and individual support, you’ll explore composition, colour harmony, texture, and personal style while working towards more resolved artworks.
Week 1: Refresh & Build – Confident Foundations
A quick recap of essential acrylic techniques, colour mixing, and brush control. You’ll explore working more freely and efficiently, focusing on paint consistency, layering, and stronger mark-making.
Week 2: Colour Harmony & Mood
Learn how to create harmonious colour palettes and use colour to express mood and atmosphere. Explore limited palettes and practice controlling contrast and temperature within a painting.
Week 3: Composition & Focal Points
Develop stronger compositions by understanding balance, movement, and focal points. You’ll plan a painting using sketches and tonal studies before working on canvas.
Week 4: Texture, Depth & Expressive Techniques
Experiment with texture-building tools, expressive brushwork, and layered surfaces. Learn how to create depth and interest while avoiding overworking your painting.
Week 5: Developing a Personal Project
Begin a more sustained painting project of your choice (still life, landscape, or reference-based subject). Focus on refining technique, colour relationships, and personal style with guided feedback.
Week 6: Refinement, Finishing & Presentation
Complete your artwork, focusing on final adjustments, highlights, and cohesion. Learn simple finishing and presentation tips, followed by a supportive group discussion celebrating progress and outcomes.
