Seaview at Sandsend is inspired by the Yorkshire coast near Whitby, where the interaction of sea, rock and light creates an ever-changing landscape. During my visit, I was captivated by the clarity of the coastal light, the vibrant colours, and the tidal pools reflecting the sky between the rocks.

Working from direct observation and memory, I sought to capture not only the physical beauty of the coastline but also its atmosphere—the rhythm of the tide, the movement of the sea, and the quiet moments that invite contemplation. Through expressive brushwork and layered colour, I aim to evoke the sensory experience of standing on the beach.

This painting marks the beginning of my exploration of the Yorkshire coastline, celebrating its distinctive marine environment and the emotional connection it inspires.

I wanted to capture more than just a view—I wanted to create a painting that transports you to the beach, where you can almost hear the waves, breathe the fresh sea air, and feel the calm of the coastline.
